Duration of Sleep Affects Heart Health

People who sleep more or less than 7 hours a day, including naps, can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Research at the Faculty of Medicine, West Virginia was conducted, showed that less than 5 hours of sleep per day, the risk of angina, coronary artery disease, heart attack or stroke, twice.  Too much sleep more than 7 hours per day also brings the risk of heart disease and circulatory health. The slept 9 hours or more per day, the risk of cardiovascular disease. The research was collected by Anoop Shankar analyzing data on more than 30,000 adults in the survey in the United States national survey in 2005.

Research on age, gender, race, weight, activity, lifestyle, and consumption of cigarettes and alcohol ranked. Groups of people with diabetes, high blood pressure or depression were excluded. Age groups, particularly the risk of heart disease are adults under age 60, less than 5 hours of sleep a night in old age. The risk of a heart attack 3 times more than seven hours of sleep per day.

The researchers explained that sleep deprivation can cause impaired glucose tolerance and reduced insulin sensitivity and hypertension. Factors increase the risk of atherosclerosis leading to heart disease. It is recommended for adults to sleep around 7 to 8 hours every night.
